Natural Methods To Assist With Whitening Tooth Enamel

If your teeth have a dull, yellow appearance and you are self-conscious when you smile or talk to others in person, try one of the following natural methods to assist with whitening each tooth's enamel. The options, as well as visiting your dentist and having your teeth professionally cleaned will assist with obtaining an appearance that you will feel good about.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil can be used to trap bacteria in your mouth, resulting in a reduction in the risk of tooth decay. If plaque buildup has been contributing to the abnormal color of your teeth, it will be loosened with the oil. Brush and floss your teeth as you usually do. Afterwards, add a small amount of coconut oil to a spoon and insert it in your mouth. Swish the oil around for several minutes. Spit the mixture out when finished. If you do not like the coconut taste the remains in your mouth, mouthwash or a breath mint will eliminate it.

Mashed Strawberries

Although strawberries are dark in color and may cause you to think that they would stain your teeth, the opposite is true. Malic acid, is a natural compound that is found in some fruits, including strawberries, and contributes to their slightly sour taste. If it is applied to enamel, it will assist with breaking down particles that are present, resulting in a healthier appearance.

Rinse a few strawberries off with water and cut off their stems. Dice the strawberries into small pieces. Add the strawberry pieces and a small amount of water to a blender. Blend the contents until they are an even consistency. Apply an even layer of the mixture to the surface of each tooth. Leave the strawberry paste on your teeth for several minutes. Afterwards, brush your teeth and rinse your mouth with water.

Fruit Peels

Oranges, lemons, and limes contain d-limonene, a chemical that is located on the inside of fruit peels. It can be used to naturally eliminate stains on teeth and may assist with neutralizing foul odors in your mouth. Peel a piece of fruit and cut a section of the rind that will fit over the surface of your teeth. Clench the rind in your mouth for several minutes while the inside of the peel is resting firmly against the surface of each tooth. Remove the rind and rinse your mouth out with mouthwash.

Use any of these tips regularly and you may soon notice that your teeth have an improved appearance. For more tips, contact a company like Oakwood Family Dentistry.
